Calming Your Dog or Cat Before They Go to the Groomer (or Whenever They’re Stressed)!

This blog post is based on the information from a YouTube video about animal communication and acupressure techniques to help calm your pet.

Introduction

Does your dog or cat get stressed out before going to the groomer, vet, or when you leave?

Learn some easy acupressure points, an ancient acupressure method known as TuiNa, and animal communication to help your pet feel more relaxed and better able to handle whatever situation makes them feel stressed.

Before You Begin

  • Important note: Always consult your veterinarian before trying any new techniques on your pet, especially if they have any health concerns.

Preparing Yourself

  • Take a few deep breaths to relax and center your own energy. Your pet picks up on your energy and emotions!

Animal Communication

  1. Sit quietly with your pet.
  2. Focus on your the center of your heart and love for them. 
  3. Next, focus on your intention to help them relax.
  4. Imagine showing them a mini-movie in your mind of the upcoming event (going to the groomer) and you calmly performing the acupressure techniques on them.
  5. Trust that they are receiving your intentions. I’ve been a professional animal communication teacher for over twenty years. I can assure you, your pets pick up on what is happening even when you are aren’t taking these extra measures. So you can assume that they likely are receiving this intention
  6. Intentionally Communicating with Animals Boosts Understanding When you are intentionally communicating with animals, there is an added benefit of doing energy work with them, which is an essential part of acupressure. This energy work can help enhance the exchange of understanding between you and the animal, allowing you to better understand their thoughts and feelings.
  7. The bottom line is, animals gravitate to and thrive on balanced energy.

Acupressure Techniques

For acupressure points, you may start with 30 seconds, and note/stop when the energy shifts: shaking their paw, leg, or other part of the body, a sigh, licking lips, shifting the body, rolling over, walking away.

Try doing this once per day. Use your intuition and connection with your animal family member to know if they would like to receive the techniques.

Repeat on the other opposite side if applicable.

Always give the animal the option todecline“. You can try again later. 

 

  1. Opening: Gently place your hands on the base of your pet’s neck. In one continuous motion, slowly stroke down the right side of their back to the outside of the leg, down to the outside of the paw to the base of the outermost claw. Repeat three times on each side. *Although the photo isn’t showing it, please move your opposite hand to the mid-point of the opposide side of the animal’s back or shoulder, to serve as a gentle ‘support’., throughout. 

2. Mofa, TuiNa technique: Use flat palms or your fingers to make gentle, circular motions along either side of your pet’s back, legs, and paws. The same method as the opening, moving down either side of the body and providing support with the opposite hand. Repeat three times on each side.

3. Kidney 1: Locate the large pad in the middle of your pet’s hind paw. Apply gentle pressure to this point for 30 seconds, observing your pet’s response.

4. Gallbladder 44: Find the outer side of the fourth toe (excluding the dewclaw) on your pet’s hind paw. Apply gentle pressure to this point for 30 seconds, observing your pet’s response. Repeat on the other paw.

6. Kidney 27: Find the slight dip just above your pet’s first rib. Apply gentle pressure here with your thumbs or pointer fingers. This point can be done on both sides at the same time.

7. Closing: Repeat the opening technique, stroking down your pet’s body three times on each side.

Calming Communication

As you perform the acupressure, communicate with your pet through your heart, letting them know they are safe, loved, and will be okay.

Conclusion

This is a great way to prepare your pet for any stressful situation, not just going to the groomer.

By combining relaxation techniques with loving communication, you can help your furry friend feel calm and supported.
