What Your Dog Knows That You Don’t: A Story About Leo, Coffee, and Connection

Leo, a charming pup with a strong opinion on coffee, recently taught his humans something unexpected. When his family scheduled an animal communication consultation with me, they had one goal: to understand what was going on with Leo’s health. But the first thing Leo wanted to talk about? A coffee mug.

Check out this excerpt from this animal communication with Leo below:

Anne: "He shows me his dog bowl. For some reason I'm seeing his bowl like colorful and ceramic. And I'm not saying that's literally what his bowl looks like, but it's...I almost feel like there's some symbology, some symbolism with it.

It's like a, it looks like a ceramic colorful design. And then I hear "coffee, coffee," like, something to do with a specialty coffee mug.ā€Š And it's a white background with colors on it."

Leo's Mom: ā€ŠOh my! My favorite coffee mug. Oh. Oh my god, I'm literally am looking at it right now. That's so great. I just had coffee. I have coffee out of it like every day."

How Animal Communication Really Works

So why did Leo show me a coffee mug when we were supposed to be discussing his health? Because this is how animals communicate. They start with what’s real to them, the little things that define their world. And when they see that I understand, they trust me with the big stuff.

People often expect animal communication to be a direct Q&A session. But animals don’t think in human-style conversations. They share snapshots, emotions, and sensory experiences. It’s my job to interpret what they’re showing me and relay it accurately.

Imagine if I had ignored the coffee mug. I could have brushed it off as irrelevant to Leo’s health concerns, but then I would have lost his trust—and possibly his family’s trust in me. Instead, by acknowledging the little details, I proved to Leo’s humans that I was truly hearing their dog.

And once that trust was established, we could get to the heart of why they called me in the first place.

The Science Behind Understanding Animals

Leo’s story relates to a fascinating topic: how humans perceive animal emotions. A recent study from Arizona State University, led by doctoral student Holly Moro, explored this topic in a surprising way.

She filmed her family’s dog, Oliver, reacting to different situations—some positive (a leash, a toy), some negative (a scolding, the presence of a disliked cat). Then, she edited the videos into two versions: one with full context and one where Oliver was shown on a blank background.

Hundreds of people watched both versions and rated Oliver’s emotions. When they saw the full context, they could correctly identify when Oliver was happy or upset. But when the context was removed, they misread his emotions, often rating a negative reaction as positive.

What does this mean? People tend to interpret animal emotions based on the situation rather than the animal’s actual signals. And that’s exactly why telepathic animal communication is so important—it removes human bias and lets animals tell their own stories.

Kids Get It

Children are naturally gifted at animal communication. They don’t overthink it. They don’t second-guess.

I saw this in action just last week. My dog, Kane, was barking through the screen door at a neighbor’s boy. Without hesitation, the little boy called back, ā€œHey, stop it!ā€ And Kane stopped.

No fear. No hesitation. Just a direct, confident connection.

Most adults lose this ability over time. We’re taught to dismiss, doubt, and categorize it as imagination rather than intuition. But it’s still there, waiting to be rekindled.

A Book That Bridges the GapĀ

This innate ability to connect with animals lies at the heart of my new children’s book, Meesha’s Heart Adventure: Emotional Regulation While Learning How Animals Think and Feel. One of my favorite early reviews came from a parent whose child fears dogs. She shared how reading the book together helped ease her daughter’s fear. That’s the magic of truly understanding animals—it removes fear and replaces it with connection. The book explores how animals think and feel while teaching children to regulate emotions. Whether it’s a tough day or a thunderstorm, the lessons inside are crafted to help kids—and their families—develop deeper relationships with their animal companions.

Music for the Heart

Alongside the book, I’ve also released an album,Ā Meesha Songs, which was created through my intuitive connection with animals. One track,Ā Rub My Belly, has taken on a life of its own. It’s been downloaded thousands of times and is now a favorite on social media pet videos.

The book and album aim to reinforce something simple but profound: We are always connected to those we love, no matter the distance. That’s true for our animal family members just as much as for humans.

Helping Warrior Dogs Retire with Honor

For the book’s launch, I’m donating 50% of the proceeds to the Warrior Dog Foundation. They rehabilitate, provide long-term care, and help retired military dogs transition from their service roles to loving homes. Some even reunite with their orignal handlers through their Home With Handlers program!Ā

It’s a mission close to my heart. These dogs have given everything, and now they deserve a peaceful retirement. However, rehabilitation and specialized housing are expensive, so every book purchase makes a difference.
