Today, I’m going to discuss something a little bit different. It’s my journey from being a therapist, moving to UnitedHealth Group, and ultimately becoming a successful entrepreneur, working with animals and their people. This work brings me immense joy and purpose every day. If you’ve ever considered leaving the corporate grind or exploring your passion for animals, stick around.

A Healthcare Industry Perspective: My Time at UnitedHealth Group
Recent events, including the tragic incident involving UnitedHealth Group CEO Brian Thompson, have highlighted the challenges in the healthcare industry. While this tragedy is a stark reminder of systemic issues, I want to share how my experience at UnitedHealth Group shaped my career.
Before working at UnitedHealth, I held various roles in mental health, including working in the NYC foster care system and as a therapist in trauma and abuse programs. My first role at UnitedHealth was in a call center discussing mental health benefits with clients.
I joined the company for its promised benefits, but I quickly realized these were not as great as they had seemed. While UnitedHealth offered opportunities to step back from the intense demands of community mental health, challenges such as unclear management policies and restrictive care protocols ultimately made it a mixed experience for me.
Balancing Corporate and Personal Growth
Despite its challenges, working at UnitedHealth provided professional growth opportunities and a structured work environment. Unlike community mental health, I could leave work behind at the end of the day, allowing me to focus on building my business.
Should You Consider a Career as a Therapist?
If you’re considering a career as a therapist, there are various pathways, such as becoming a psychologist, a licensed clinical social worker (like me), or pursuing a related degree. The work is fulfilling and allows for continuous learning, but it also comes with its challenges.
Specializing in areas like trauma, family therapy, or private practice can increase income potential. However, factors like student loans, licensing requirements, and continuing education costs must be considered. Additionally, your temperament and stress tolerance are crucial when dealing with clients facing emotional challenges.
How My Counseling Background Enhances My Animal Communication Work
My therapy background has honed my skills in active listening, problem-solving, and sensing unspoken emotions—all of which translate beautifully into my work as an animal communicator. If you’re considering working with animals, remember that you’ll also be working with people, which makes interpersonal skills essential.
My Transition to Animal Acupressure and Massage
I am proud to be a telepathic animal communicator and a nationally board-certified animal acupressure and massage practitioner. This work is deeply fulfilling as it contributes to the health and wellness of animals and their families.
Exciting Opportunity: Join Me at the Animal Acupressure Retreat
I’m thrilled to announce my new role with Tallgrass Animal Acupressure Resources and Crowning Touch Hands-On Curriculum. I’ll be leading the Canine and Small Animal Foundation Acupressure Retreat on February 22-23, 2025, in Florham Park, NJ.
This retreat is part of the steps toward national board certification in animal acupressure.

My older dog Atticus has been having problems with his back legs for a while. Anne was able to help him with pain relief by her expert care and techniques. She even showed us how we can continue this treatment at home. He also seems more cuddly and calm. Our friend’s dog was over yesterday and he did so well with her. My dog’s life has been enhanced by (Anne’s) care. Thank you
