Fast Calming For Stressed-Out Pets!
Watch the 50 second demo HERE
This past weekend, we had an amazing time at our Small Animal Acupressure Foundations Retreat in Florham Park, NJ! It was a weekend filled with learning, hands-on practice, and making new friends who share a passion for helping animals through acupressure.
One of the many useful techniques we covered was how to calm an anxious dog using the Kidney 1 (K1) acupressure point—a simple yet powerful method that you can try at home.
Wonderful time coaching as the East Coast Team Lead coaching Tallgrass and Crowning Touch Animal Acupressure Retreats!
P.S.- Yes, I’m still doing all the things I’ve always done. This is a new aspect of my business!
When Your Dog Is Freaking Out
Dogs can get anxious or overstimulated from loud noises, sudden changes in their environment, or even just the energy around them. In this quick demonstration, I show how to use the Kidney 1 acupressure point on Cheyenne, who was feeling unsettled after hearing some unexpected noises.
After just a short session using this acupressure point, she shifted from nervous and on edge to calm and relaxed. Let’s dive into how you can do the same for your dog.
Kidney 1 (K1) Acupressure Point Location
The Kidney 1 (K1) point is found on the bottom of your dog’s hind paw, just behind the large central pad. Here’s how to find it:
- Gently lift your dog’s paw.
- Locate the large central pad on the bottom of the hind foot.
- Just behind that pad, in the soft groove, is where you’ll apply pressure.
You can use either your thumb or index finger to apply steady but gentle pressure.
How to Apply Acupressure to Kidney 1
- Find a quiet space where your dog feels comfortable.
- Hold the paw gently with one hand to support it.
- Apply firm but gentle pressure to the Kidney 1 point with your thumb or finger.
- Hold for about 20 to 30 seconds while monitoring your dog’s response.
- Watch for signs of relaxation, such as deep breathing, softened eyes, or a general sense of calm.
.
Why Does This Work?

The Kidney 1 point is known for its grounding and calming effects. It helps to:
- Reduce anxiety and fear responses
- Balance the nervous system
- Promote overall relaxation
This technique is especially useful during thunderstorms, fireworks, travel, or any situation where your dog may feel overwhelmed.
Seeing the Results
In the video, you can see how Cheyenne and Kane, who had been unsettled just moments before, quickly relaxed after applying this acupressure technique. It’s a great reminder of how simple and natural methods like acupressure can make a real difference in our animals’ well-being.
If you’d like to learn more about techniques like this, consider joining us for one of our upcoming animal acupressure courses or retreats or treat your pet to a Customized Animal Communication and Wellness Plan. I started this class (Telepathic Animal Communication, Acupressure and Mindfulness) to try to learn how to better myself for my cat who was at the time going through a lot of behavioral issues. This class helped me understand how to be better, understand what my cat could gave me insight on techniques to help relax my cat, and also made me feel understood during challenging times. Since taking this class behaviors have decreased and I continue to use acupressure on my cats everyday to help calm them and feel their best. I recommend this course to anyone who needs help and wants to better understand their animals!
