Oasis

On the corner of St. Louis and Royal Streets in the French Quarter in New Orleans I had the pleasure of experiencing an oasis of calm amongst the surrounding chaos.
Of course, the French Quarter is not best known for it’s peacefulness. However, listening to a guitar and a violin duo this past Saturday evening, I was reminded of the connection between the experience of communicating with animals and really, most anything that brings people to a place of deep feeling and stillness.

The connection – music and animal communication

Some people were wiping away tears, many stood mesmerized, some sank to sit on the sidewalk in order to fully take in the sounds produced by these talented musicians. We were temporarily removed from the noise of thousands of revelers. This total focus on one beautiful thing, a sort of giving over to the music, reminded me of what it is like to communicate with animals.

Centering, grounding and connection – the animal’s gift to us

With animal communication we must come to a place of centeredness. We must be “in our bodies” and “grounded” so that we can be open to what an animal is thinking and feeling. Part of why animals often help people to become more grounded is because of their lack of ego. For humans, this sense of being able to let down our guard with an animal, results in the release of our own anxiety, stress, tension and/or other strong emotion.

Our group of strangers listened in the French Quarter, connecting with these gifted musicians and while in this shared experience, with one another. This is exactly what happens when we are focused and still with an animal. One of my favorite things about teaching animal communication is to see the connection that is made between students who are meeting for the first time. That connection is facilitated by the animal teachers.
This is one of the many blessings that animals bring to us and why I am so grateful to them for the healing they can bring amongst humans.
